New Facebook “Reactions” Feature Trials First In Ireland

Social media giant Facebook has invited its Irish & Spanish users to become the first to try out its new “reactions” feature.

The new feature will act as an extension of the iconic Facebook “like button” and will include a choice of six emoji-style responses.

Users will be able to engage with posts through single-click responses from a range of reactions such as “Like”, “Love”, “HaHa”, “Wow”, “Sad”, and “Angry”.

From Friday the 9th of October users in Ireland and Spain will be able to access the reactions to test their performance in English and non-English speaking countries.

The format is easy. Simply hover over the like button on a post and the six reactions will appear on the screen.

Then choose one that’s relevant to the post and click on it. No more awkward likes on sad or negative posts, now users have more scope to express their feelings like never before.

The launch of reactions comes just weeks after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg hinted that Facebook would, at last, be looking into developing a “dislike” button for the platform.

Previous calls for such a button were rebuffed by Facebook over fears that such a feature could manifest as online bullying in the future.

Gareth Lambe, head of Facebook in Ireland, said: “It’s exciting that Ireland’s Facebook community will be one of the first to participate in testing these new ways to express reactions.

“With over two million Irish people actively logging onto Facebook every day, they’ll now have more ways to show how they feel – whether that’s happy, sad, funny or thought-provoking.”

The Matrix team are having hours of fun with this new feature and we’re guessing you guys are too! Here’s hoping that it will become a permanent fixture on our timelines in the future.
