Breaking Down Our Free SEO Audit

At Matrix Internet, we offer a free SEO Audit to businesses interested in growing the levels of organic traffic going to their website.

We run dozens of successful SEO campaigns for clients across Ireland and the United Kingdom. Our SEO process involves initial setup work to ensure that everything is as it should be and then ongoing refinement and optimization to give the website greater visibility across search engines.

We identify and outline this work before a button has been clicked in our free SEO Audit.

Usually, our SEO team start by reviewing the website’s Google Analytics account. We provide an overview of the website’s historical performance from an organic traffic perspective.

Analytics can be an overwhelming tool for newcomers and it’s no surprise that we usually find that traffic is being skewed because the setup is not configured to exclude spammy visits from bots and spiders. Matrix will ensure that the information flowing to your Analytics account is as accurate as possible.

Every now and then we receive a request to audit a website that doesn’t have an Analytics account. This isn’t a problem because the next part of the audit details the real nitty gritty SEO work.

While every website has a different setup and a unique situation, there are certain SEO factors that we check for every website:

Technical SEO

The first technical aspects that can be quickly checked are the page speed and mobile-friendliness of the website. This is achieved using two free Google tools:

Search engines like fast websites and it’s known to be a ranking factor while mobile-friendliness wasn’t exactly the apocalypse scenario many feared, it’s still extremely important and likely to get even more so in the future.

Various other online tools are used to measure technical issues surrounding URL Canonicalization,  the website’s backlink profile, the inclusion of a sitemap and other issues related to that.

Meta Tags

Optimized Meta Tags, despite being arguably the most well-known ranking factor, is surprisingly neglected by many website owners. While this is not quite as important as it used to be (the Meta Keywords tag is now completely redundant for search engines) it’s still essential for this to be addressed.

Meta Descriptions are the snippets of text search engines place under the link to your website on their results page. In this way, it almost acts as a text ad for the website. Matrix review the Meta Descriptions for all pages on the website. Meta Titles are also reviewed.

Alt Tags inform Search Engines about the content of an image. The ‘alt’ attribute provides a text equivalent for the image and search engines utilise the alt attribute for image search indexing. It is important that they are included in every image on the website. Alt Tags are checked to ensure they are optimized and contain relevant terms.

Keywords

We also look at how your website is ranking for the keywords that you believe are most important for it. We can provide the current ranking in Google across all countries that are relevant to the website, along with how often each term is searched on a monthly basis.

Content

When it comes to search engines and the internet in general, content is king.

Blogging is a very healthy practice for SEO purposes. Creating regular content can attract more visitors to the website, build the number of inbound links, boost the performance of keywords in search engines, and cause Google to crawl the site more frequently.

Blogging can also be an effective method of building cross-sell and cross-linking opportunities by promoting products and services.

We also analyse the on-site content to see if the text-to-code ratio is at a healthy level.
