Postcode Envy? A checklist for Irish Businesses

With the introduction this week of Eircode, Ireland finally shook off the dubious honour of being the only country in Europe without a postcode system.  The 12th of July 2015 really was a “red letter day” for Ireland and its postal service. As always, humour was to the fore and Irish Twitter users showed their photoshop skills.

We are not a nation that is known for precision time-keeping, the deadline for the launch was originally set on 1st January 2008 by then Communications Minister Noel Dempsey! No matter what, the system is up and running now and we should embrace it for many reasons :

  • Trust in eCommerce will increase as deliveries become more efficient
  • The business post will be delivered more reliably
  • Contact details will now be more accurate

“THE CHEQUE IS IN THE POST” – NO REALLY.

Anyone who is in business in Ireland will be familiar with this old chestnut. It is a well-known fact that more cheques have been lost in the Irish Postal Service than any other!  Internet banking has helped to alleviate this problem and the new Eircodes should ensure quicker delivery of all business posts.

Now that the system is live, it is a good idea for all businesses to update their contact details with their new Eircode. This can be a hard task considering all of the different online channels that businesses have in 2015. Updating your address will show your customers that you are a progressive business and that your digital channels are current. You can find your Eircode at this link: https://finder.eircode.ie/#/
Here is a helpful guide or checklist of some of the main places to update with your new Eircode :

  • Linkedin business page
