New Page Speed & Mobile-Friendliness Tool Launched By Google

Google has launched a new tool allowing webmasters to test the mobile-friendliness of their websites along with page speeds for both desktop and mobile all in one place.

Google announced the new tool on their Small Business blog and billed the tool as a guide for business owners to get a handle on how smoothly their website runs.

Like most Google tools the results are very simple to follow and intended for the layman as well as the webmaster. Take the test here and share the results with your webmaster or send them to Matrix and we’ll see what we can do for you.

The unique aspects of this tool are listed below:

  • Previously both tests were available on separate landing pages. In addition to combining both tests, this tool will also measure desktop speed, mobile speed, and mobile-friendliness on one screen.
  • Email you a detailed report for you to share with your web design team.
  • Give you a score out of 100 for how mobile-friendly your website is, rather than merely stating if the site is mobile responsive or not like previous tools.

Google stressed the importance of mobile-friendliness and good page speed times by revealing the conclusions of a study which found that “nine out of ten people will leave a mobile website if they can’t find what they’re looking for right away.”

It’s also worth factoring in the number of people on mobile devices who will leave a website if it’s not mobile-friendly.

The study also shared that “on average, people check their phones more than 150 times a day,  and more searches occur on mobile phones than computers. But if a potential customer is on a phone, and a site isn’t easy to use, they’re five times more likely to leave.

Businesses could be losing the attention of potential customers due to these issues being overlooked.
