New Year’s Resolutions for Your 2017 Digital Marketing Strategy

Do you make New Year’s resolutions for your personal life?

Many of us use the new year as a time to reassess our lives and our habits to see how we can improve.  We try to quit bad habits and develop healthier ones.  In general, we try to do better.  Shouldn’t you do the same for your business?  If you are inclined to make a few New Year’s resolutions to improve your digital marketing, then we have a few suggestions that will help you keep your edge with the competition and reach your target audience.  They aren’t complicated, but they are things that we can all get a bit lazy about and let slide.

  • Mobile First – Study after study has shown that mobile devices are replacing desktop and laptop computers for personal use.  People can access social media and search for products, retailers and entertainment venues on the go.  Because it’s convenient, people are embracing it.  So to stay in touch with your audience, make a resolution to think mobile first in every aspect of your digital marketing in 2017.  Plan your visuals, your SEO and your content to reach people using their mobile devices.
  • Valuable Content – Keyword stuffing was never good.   But is your content really giving something of value to your readers?  Think beyond explaining your product or service.  Think about the bigger picture.  People are searching for answers online.  You need to understand their questions and answer them comprehensively with your content.  If you have a location-specific business, be sure your content reflects that.
  • Leverage Social Media – Don’t forget that when you post on one platform, you should use your other platforms to direct people to that post. A new blog post?  Share it on Facebook, Twitter and any other social media platforms you use.   Make this a new habit, and you should be rewarded with more engagement with your base of potential customers.
  • Use Video – Video is increasingly popular to reach your audience. You can create tutorials to give people easy instructions for using your product or make videos to demonstrate your service.  If you have a venue, you can offer a video tour to entice potential visitors.  Consider how much people like to share videos on social media, and see if you can find the inspiration to craft something with the potential to go viral.

If you can stick to your digital marketing resolutions and make them solid habits, then 2017 could be the healthiest year yet for your company.  As for your personal New Year’s resolutions, remember that the healthier you are, the more you can do for your business.  Taking care of yourself matters too.  Here’s to a happy and prosperous 2017!
