PJ Hegarty is one of Ireland’s most successful building companies, with a proud history in construction since 1925. Hegarty has led hundreds of projects in Ireland and the UK, including high-profile buildings such as Dublin’s GPO, Dublin Airport, Thomond Park in Limerick and the National Gallery of Ireland.
THE BRIEF
Project overview
Their contractor for their latest project was Matrix Internet, and we built a new, modern website that’s a blueprint for even further growth in their industry.
We designed and developed the new brochure site that showcases the company’s impressive portfolio, while keeping users informed with accessible news, team information, careers and corporate responsibility.The project involved a full corporate rebrand including a new logo and design system, seamlessly integrated throughout the fully bespoke site. The user experience is enhanced through improved, intuitive navigation and subtle animated microinteractions.
We also added newly commissioned photography and a new homepage video created by our Creative Director, balancing Hegarty’s large-scale construction projects and real team members on site — adding an impactful human element.
For the portfolio section, we incorporated a strong visual element, with prominent high-quality photos of their large-scale projects, and intuitive filtering by sector. Our writers also wrote content for over 150 projects, presenting the portfolio with a unified voice and an engaging tone.
We restructured the main navigation, simplifying it and renaming sections in a more action-based way to guide the users. We also streamlined the user journey through full website search capability, and enhanced engagement through a new interactive timeline of PJ Hegarty’s history since 1925.
With the company approaching a century in business, the new site is a celebration of Hegarty’s past work, and a foundation for the future.

- WordPress multisite — .ie and co.uk sites controlled through one super admin login, with geolocation. Depending on IP address, .ie or .co.uk will load and the user can toggle between both websites at any time;
- Custom WordPress template with full UX/UI process and workshops;

PROCESS
A new site built with UX Design at its heart, from discovery stages through branding, development and launch.
- Discovery workshops to develop target user personas, client goals and new sitemap;
- Custom rebranding and graphic design phase, from wireframes to final templates;
- Development phase with ongoing feedback on test site;
- Concurrent content writing phase, guided by user behaviour analysis and consultation with key Hegarty stakeholders;
- Staff training in WordPress editing, before extensive QA phase and live launch.
